Hi Guys,

I am currently repowering a 2601 striper and cannot decide which motor to repower with.

My options:
300hp Suzuki
300hp Yamaha

The boat is currently setup with a single 250hp and it was not powerful enough.

My question is, which setup would provide the best balance for the 2601 stiper?

I understand the power of the Yamaha 300hp is not that much better than the power of the yamaha 250hp.

Is there any benefit in going the Suzuki with the lean burn technology??

Which of the two 300hp motors has better power/economy on a 5000lb boat as a single installation?

Would the wider prop and gear ratios of the Suzuki be of any benefit over the Yamaha?

Can anyone please provide there performance figures with their 300hp motor??

It costs over $32,000 over here to repower with a single, so I am trying to get the best information possible.

Thank you very much for reading, and look forward to your responses.

In your case solution is only one -Etec or Optimax but i prefered Etec.
2stroke is powerfull less weight and very explode engine...

Agree with the above. but I'll take the E-Tec first and then the Mercury. Also the maintenance costs on the E-Tec are less than the four strokes. Just read a good article In Boating Magazine about it.

Around here, Yamaha out numbers everything else in that HP range. Suzuki has a big commercial following but that's primary based upon the purchase cost since they repower every 3-5 years.

Although not a Striper, here is a link to performance figures for a F250 and F300 strapped to the back of a #5K boat of a different manufacturer for comparison

I really like the ETEC technology the oil consumption is really low, very little smoke, and great on fuel. They have been around long enough to work the bugs out so I would feel good about using that technology. Using their synthetic oil cost's a bit more than other 2 stroke oils but I have been told it's worth using exactly what they recommend. Warranty requires you to use it too. They are very quiet to run as well.
