hey- i just bought my first boat last week. an 1989, 19 foot searay, with a 135 hp mercury mariner outboard. its in great condition!! i have been cleaning her up,etc. but i have come across one problem, i can't figure out. the steering wheel was off centered. so, i removed the bolts holding on the steering wheel and re-centered it. but when you turn the wheel to lock in either direction and bring the motor back to center, the steering wheel is off centered again! i see no leaks, etc. is there some linkage i must adjust?? any ideas? thanks

Nature of the beast in my opinion....
Is the steering smooth throughout the path of travel, if so you're probably just not hitting the exact center position everytime....

Is there a lot of play with the steering?

steering is smooth. there is not much play at all. as soon as a move the wheel, the motor moves. so, that is normal, huh?
