can anyone confirm that this is a 1995 model?

Also major issues with what I think is the fuel system. Problems are as follows

You must press the choke to start the engine.

If you are in gear and going slow and full throttle suddenly the engine will just die but if you hit the choke just before you throttle up it will power up.

I thought is would have been a problem with the carbs so I took them off and cleaned them all down but never counted the turns for the pilot screws so can anyone give me info on the exact procedure on synchronising the carbs and also if I require anything to do this.

last and final problem is that when you put it into gear it will grind a lot before going in and it really only goes in if you force the rpm way up then it will slam into gear NOT GOOD does anyone no how to get this set up correctly?

Thank You

Re: Help yamaha 140HP Autolube

cant help much as I dont see many non US market motors but I have worked with some 140's in venezuela.
your choke, yes its a two stroke and needing choke on cold or semi warm starts is normal.
your first problem description describes a lack of fuel in the fuel bowl. replace the fuel pump and check for fuel line restrictions.
on the 130 the pilot screws are set at 7/8ths out. will be close on the 140.
remember the carbs pilot screw doesnt richen nor lean the mix it simply allows more or less of the mix created by the idle fuel and pilot are jetting.

on your shifting issue, check the shift shaft, check the cables for signs of failure and make sure the cables can move freely, you may try shifting manually with the cable dissconected at the engine, if it still grinds its most likly the shaft, if not its upstream.

Re: Help yamaha 140HP Autolube

when you say that its 7/8 out can you explain that more clearly please for example do i screw them in all the way and bring them out 7/8ths of a turn? and do all the pilot screws on the carbs get set the same as it is a V4 with 2 twin carbs so 4 pilot screws.

and also can you tell me anything about the year based on the numbers above

thank you

yes turn them in until lightly seated then back out 7/8ths to 1 turn.
as far as your numbers go I cant help much as my US based software doesnt support non-US market motors and the 140 was never imported here. however its about identical to the 130.
adjusting the pilot airscrews isnt gonna aide your issue though.
