Re: Help!

I only replaced the sections towards the stern, about 2- 32" strips of stringer. I started with bondo someone suggested, but I stopped and am now using long strand fiberglass filler. The resin I got is from west marine. The pieces of stringer I put back in have all been coated with resin, and were pressure treated. The stringer going across the middle that is not glassed, I added as an extra support because there was nothing there. It looks like it might have been a ski locker. It's a tri-hull and it's on a trailer with bunks.

Re: Help!

Have you checked the transom? What's the Brand of Resin? Did you put CSM (Chopped Strand Mat) on the wood? Resin without mat will not work. It will crack and allow water to soak the wood. The Stringers are a very important structural component of the boat. If they are not done correctly the boat could be unsafe. Have you read this..."Fabricating Decks, Stringers, and Transoms"

Re: Help!

It's your boat and you can do it any way you want, but the majority of people on this forum won't support doing a project the wrong way.

You asked for advice and you got it, wether you choose to use it or ignore it is up to you.

Re: Help!

I appreciate all the input. With that said, I scrapped the job. Every time I looked under a piece of fiberglass I found rotten wood. Every piece of wood except the hand rails on the back was rotten. This boat might have spent some time underwater. I found another hull with a solid floor, hull, and transom, and a trailer. The hull is a 1976 Arrow Glass Cougar. It's not new, but good for fishing in canals and back bays here in the Fort Myers area. Thanks again for all the advice guys!

Re: Help!

I could see that in the pics and that was the reason I suggested a complete gut and rebuild.

Hope this other hull works out for you.
