Re: Hey Lubedude!!!

Well, I wish it were mine, but I borrowed it and had to take it back. It was a 14.25 X 27P four blade and could turn it at 5,300-5,400 RPM at 65+ MPH. I do not think I could have even got on plane with it if it were not for the Smart Tabs. However, It performed adaquatly with two on board and all the fishing gear with no change in top end. It didnt hook up as well at full trim as the High Five I have now, I had to bump it down just a little to get a good bite. If I went the next bump up I could throw at least a 75 Yard rooster tail, but at a loss of speed. Sure looked cool though. I wish I could have had a picture. I havnt figured how to drive the boat and take a picture at the same time. Im somewhat of a photographer, and want to take the picture myself and do not know anyone that I trust driving my boat that fast.

Actually the 26P would be right in the sweet spot for me.

Re: Hey Lubedude!!!

Well, I got the prop, but I've ran into a (hopefully) slight problem..

The prop being a 14.25" x 26p (3-blade) Turbo, fits fine on the shaft.. But the available thrust washers I have are just a pinch to short in thickness. The one I have that fits the prop the best has a part# of 13191, which is the washer I use on my Trophy prop. It has a thickness of right at 3/8" (using a tape measure), but it is just about a 1/16" (or less) to short on thickness. The prop nut bottoms out on the threads before seizing the prop to the washer. Also I noticed the outer hub of the prop will rub against the gear case if pushed up against it tightly, which confirms that I have the wrong washer..

Do you know if I can purchase thrust washers with varying degress of thicknesses from Mercury? Or do I have to go directly to Turbo? Or do you remember what you used for the Turbo you borrowed (Lube)?

Re: Hey Lubedude!!!

yb, There may be no damage. But I don't like it. There is approx. 1/16" (maybe more if it didn't hit the gear case) amount of room for the prop to move forward or back... And when hitting the thottle hard, it may force it backwards with enough force to damage the prop nut. Gear case damage may occur in reverse, but only rubbing where they make contact at the outer diameter surface...

Re: Hey Lubedude!!!

The prop is always trying to move forward when in forward gear. If the prop touches the gearcase now, it will eat into it when underway. It may not hurt anything but its not right.

Re: Hey Lubedude!!!

I was out fishing one day and came on a guy who had lost his prop nut while trying to put on his spare prop. His day was going from bad to worse.

He wanted me to tow him but I convinced him to try something with his spare. As long as the forward thrust washer was still there he could put the prop on, start the motor and put in forward. I told him not to slow down quick or ever put it in reverse. Since the prop was always trying to go forward it stayed on, no problem. I had spare prop hardware but we had different motors.

He drove it home the 15 miles and I didnt have to tow him. His worse day got better, mine never got bad.

Re: Hey Lubedude!!!

Found the problem, It's an older Turbo prop, so I need the older thrust washer to go with it. I ordered one and it's on the way... Hopefully get here in time for the weekend...

Re: Hey Lubedude!!!

Glad you figured it out.

Bought a 26P Bravo 1 prop for the LaveyCraft, if it works out right, I will have the 27P for my boat. Im keeping the HighFive for pulling skiers and towing tubes though. The Bravo is suppose to be a better prop for the I/Os and the stepped Hull. We will see.

Re: Hey Lubedude!!!

Got the thrust washer today and everything fits perfectly.. Planning on taking it out this weekend or tomorrow evening to test...

Hoping for 5700rpms and 65mph, and a fair to ok hole shot (which is still good with the 25P Lazer II).

Thanks...

Re: Hey Lubedude!!!

Well, here are the results with the 26P 3-blade Turbo....

63-64mph at 5600rpms (max tilt).

However, the hole shot suffered quite a bit, still manageable but much slower.

I did also notice some chinewalking at full tilt, not like I've experienced before I raised my engine some this spring. It's more of a gentle roll back and forth not sharp and quick like I've felt in the past. But going 60+ still makes me worry. The water was a little rough today, maybe that was the cause. However, I don't get any with my Lazer II 25P 3-blade... I'm afraid to raise the engine anymore because I start to loose some water pressure at near max tilt...

Anyway, I think I'll be better off with the Lazer, I'd really like to get my hands on a 4-blade 25...
What do you think?

Re: Hey Lubedude!!!

Ive been following so many boat setups latly, I have lost my vision of your boat.

First, You do not have a Jack plate do you?

Second, you do not have the Smart Tabs do you?

If you put smart tabs on, you will have a better hole shot, and you will get rid of the chine walk, and Ill bet, over 65 MPH.

Re: Hey Lubedude!!!

You guys must be running on glass-like water for those sorts of speeds. My boat will do about 39 knots (45 mph) and I'm one of the fastest around my local area. Most of the time the best I can hope to do is around 20-25 mph, because of the sea conditions. Where are you running, what area?

Chris..............

Re: Hey Lubedude!!!

I do have a jack plate Lube, but I don't want to raise the motor anymore because I'll loose water pressure.

No smart tabs or hydrofoil...

achris, I'm in the Kansas City area (right in the middle of the USA). Not in the ocean!
What motor/boat are you running?

Re: Hey Lubedude!!!

Do the Smart Tabs, I know its tough to drill 14 holes in your boat, but you will be so happy with the Tabs, you will quickly forget. As one Bass Boater to another, you will never be sorry you did.

You sure have come a long way from where you started.

I would just raise the Jack plate up about a 1/4 inch, that may be enough to stop the chinewalk issue. But on the other hand, the tabs will stop it instantly.

I just took another couple for a boat ride this weekend, (no fishing), My boat as you know is a fish and ski model. They have a boat also, and were absolutly amazed at how smooth my boat handled in all situations, He is ordering Smart Tabs as we speak. It came up on plane so easy with all of us on board, actually didnt even feel any different than with just me. I was even quite surprised. It was nice to just cruise around at about 20 MPH and just sight see. That was another thing he was surprised at. I wouldnt take the Smat Tabs off my boat now on a bet and I thought it handled great before.

There John, how did I do, when do I get my cut??

KCLOST,

I'm on the east beach of the Indian Ocean. I look out west and all I can see is Africa! :D

Boatwise, it's an old (32 years) 20 foot Bertram Cuddy Cabin with a 1994 4.3LX Mercuiser.
This was taken on a really calm day.
