Beautiful boat. A trailer will cost nearly as much as the boat. It is almost as old as you. For a first boat I wouldn't get something that big and expensive to maintain. Think about getting a smaller boat with an outboard on a trailer. There will be fewer things to go wrong.

Re: Hi, newbie here!

excellant boat. you have an advantage have a knowledgable friend. the motor has a good bit of rust, that is questionable.
Buying a boat

1st you need to decide what you want to use it for, fishing, cruising, or water sports.

2nd how many people adults, children you want on board of the average outing.

3rd outboard, inboard-outboard, or inboard power plant.

4th Budget, what you want to pay, and what you are willing to pay, when you find
Exactly what you want.

You can hire a marine surveyor, to inspect the boat, or you can do it yourself.

You are mainly looking for soft spots in the deck, transom, cracks, all signs of a rotten, under frame.

The motor should be clean, no spots where the paint is discolored, or pealing from heat, having run hot. Compression should be atleast 100psi, and within 10% of each other,
Spark on all cylinders, good pee stream, check lower unit for water in oil.

The overall condition of the boat will tell you a lot, as to how it has been maintained.

A 30 year old boat motor combo, may be in better condition, than a 3 year old.

So I bought it - checked it out... better than I expected and I cant wait to start working on it. New AC, new bimini, new glass, full tank of gas! Any of you guys know if it's worth doing an HIN history report on it? If so, where/how in FL?

I'm doing a fluid change on it before taking it to a different dock... where I'll smear it with some 3m compound an buff the heck out of it (not too much though - it's in pretty nice shape) then glaze it and wax it... taking all the wood off and any faded/cracked vinyl and reupholstering that and redoing the wood to a cherry-ish finish... then out of the water it'll come for new bottom paint.

I'm probably going to change the trim paint - that dark turquoise is nice but I could go for a black-on-white or all white w/ red trims... it also needs a cover. I want to put some beige w/ black berber in it too... should be a fun little project :D

DEFINITELY... I've got some awesome friends that can help me out with this - and I'm actually going to share marina costs with them. I've already taken a safe boating course and I'm actually an airline pilot (doesn't translate well to boating but I can handle machinery lol).

Re: Hi, newbie here!

you got an excellent deal. get the manual on the engine and outdrive. you may also want to have the outdrive pulled and serviced. gimbal bearing aligned, bellows check or just replace for peace of mine. nothing worse than worrying about bellow leaking. if it does not have 2 independent bilge pumps, one auto/manual and one manual. get it done.
