so this weekend i took a reciprocating saw to the transom top to clean it out to pour in some seacast hopefully....there was mud in the bottom of the transom which i assume was organic compound due to ROT....

so.i decided to cut the inside of the transom and found plenty of roteven some bondo blobs. i noticed that the splash well drain hole fitting was cracked on the bottom..i guess thats where the darn water started....so it was getting late and needed to clean up so this is where i am so far....

so then i noticed when i stood up in the boat a squish sound...there is no carpet in the boat so it had to be under the floor.... i peeled a piece that i assumed would need patching and this is what i found....

the surface has dried out a bit since yesterday - i guess these holes are where they pump the foam in.

yes that is WET FOAM! i am so discouraged now. and im thinkin for the money to fix this i can just go get me a decent used jon boat since my trailer is good.
i have nothing but time tied into this boat so far. so its really no loss...
i aquired this boat in a trade + cash kinda deal...i traded an 81 chevy non running truck for this boat and 1200 bucks "big block w/ nice parts" so i came out way ahead on the original deal... i still have that money in saving so i can drop that on a good used bateau here in town....

so honestly, how much $$$$$ would i be looking at in material approx to restore this and i am assuming i would now need to split the hull or go absolutely complete floor and stringer restoration... i dont like dealing with fiberglass and resin...the transom would have been about how much i wanted to deal with that part of it.

please....any suggestions and honest opinion on what you would do with this boat are welcome.

Well, it look like you certainly have a project ahead of you.
It appears to be an older hull.
I'm thinking after replacing the transom and floor, you have the interior and wiring to contend with, etc., etc.
If it were mine, I think I'd cut my losses and find another way to spend the money.

$1000 to $1500

people here only fix boats because they love doing it.. they love the boat and they love a project. they arent doing it to come out ahead because that rarely happens!!

if you dont love the boat, or love a project, strip it of anything worth while and junk it.

where does one dispose of a boat...is it possible to take it to the city dump or a boat salvage yard?

Our local dump accepts boats up to 20'. Beyond they charge a fee.
Everyone knows this and whacks them in half.
Call them up and see what their policy is.

i'm sure you wouldn't have any trouble getting rid of it. don't throw it away. there is someone out there that would love to do a project. if i was closer i would take it. it's not a tri hull is it? i hope not, my wife may leave me. lol. good luck. i spent around 1000 on my project but that was seats, carpet, paint, plywood, all of it. but to me, it was worth it.

Holy crap! Don't cut that one up! It's too nice looking for the dump. If you put those pictures on Craigslist I'm sure you'd have no problem finding a new owner for it.

Find yourself a nice aluminum hull next time. Worst you'll have to deal with is the transom and that's not a big deal. No fiberglass to mess with. I'm with you, there are better ways to spend the money if you're not into all that glassin'. Good luck.
