High Idle

I have a '97 Fourwinns with the Volvo Penta engine (5.7) and drive. I've noticed that when I first start it up, it seems to idle fine about 1000 rpms and it runs out fine. The problem I'm seeing is after running it, and I put it in neutral, the idle runs fast about 2000 rpms. I can turn it off and restart it, and it will go back to 1000 rpms. Any ideas?

Also, does anyone have part numbers for oil filters, fuel filters, plugs, cap, etc. for this engine so I can go to my local parts store rather than the Fourwinns dealer?

Thanks

1000 rpm is not a "Fine" idle for any engne. That is really hard on the shift mechanism and gears in any outdrive. Should be down around 650 to 750 rpm on most engines.

Best thing to do is disconnect your throttle cable from the carb. Then see if the carb will idle at the proper rpm. (650-700) you may have to adjust the idle speed screw on the carb linkage.
THen, you need to adjust the cable end on the end of the throttle cable to put a slight amount of preload on the carb linkage so the cable will push against the idle speed screw.
