My 2004 Yamaha Z250TXR has an oil to gas rato of 23 to 1. Exhust smoke is present. The oil pump and control electronics and plugs have been replaced twice. Does anyone have any ideas of what might be wrong? My warranty is running out.

Welcome!!

I thought I read / heard somewhere that was normal on those motors. I have a friend who does service work for a Yamaha dealer and his 250 was like that.

Rodbolt and Ray N. are the ones who could answer that question. Perhaps posting this in the Yamaha section would get their attention quicker. You migh ask the moderators to move this over there for you.

Take it to a different dealer...it still sounds like the ECM.

a brief service history would help.
check for pooling in the airbox. does the outboard tank fill beyond the line ever?
is the link rod adjusted correctly?(attached?) move the throttle manually and check the oil pump action, does it move normally and return all the way?
did you get a download at your last service detailing your rpm usage pattern?

that much oil is bound to foul your o2 sensor, have it cleaned more often then recommended until the problem is fixed.

lucky for you the 250 and 300 HPDI dont have the O2 sensor. get it back to the dealer. but the first runs of the 250 were oil hogs. between that and most died an early death I dont like them. we had to start rigging them with 5 gallon oil tanks so they could make the gulfstream and back.
best solution I can think of is to call yamaha directly and discuss the problem. have your primary ID ready and ask them to pull it up and see if all the updates have been done. there have been reports of the update being charged off and never done as well. but the 250's were rather hard on oil. helps keep them alive.
