10-4 will do. I have all other carbs off and have checked all screws which were solid. The butterfly appeared warped but after further inspection it was perfectly snug in there.

I could not log on for a few days.-----First saw these throttle plate screws stuck in a reed valve back in 1975 on a Johnson V-4.-----Have a reed assembly from a 1966 40 HP Evinrude with one of these screws stuck in the reed valve.---The 40 hp was scrapped by somebody that could not do some simple trouble shooting !!---------Perhaps the previous owner of this motor in question starting adjusting / guessing at timing procedures.--It would be wise to get this motor set up properly with what is normally called a " link / synchronize " procedure to get the timing and carburetor opening sequence correct.

Well welcome back racerone, you hit the nail on the head about that motors starter man! hmm I wonder if that always happens (wedging in the reed plates)? Is it possible for the screw to go through any outboard reed plate?

But thats a good point you have. im not sure what the previous owner or son did, but he told me one day it just wouldn't stop idling high, he thought it was electrical, and he let it sit in the yard ever since...probably 2-3 years! When i get it all back together sometime this weekend i will go through the timing and sync stuff for sure and post back my findings.

You got the manual for the timing/sync procedure?
