gi8.1 ticks over at 1500rpm. changed idle control valve and still the same any ideas.? no fault codes showing

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,....

I believe that says, it's a Volvo, GI 8.1l that idles at 1500rpms,...
The Idle Control Motor has been changed without Good results,+ No 'puter codes are showing...

Is the cable properly adjusted, closing the throttle plate,..??

Re: high tickover

Gi is a Volvo term, but we will need some more information to help in anyway. Like a FULL model number of the engine, or even the Volvo serial number.

Like bondo mentioned, remove the throttle cable and see if it will then idle down properly. DO NOT start turning screws on the throttle body.

Re: high tickover

sorry if that confused any one. its a volvo 8.1 ltr injection 2006-7 the throttle cable is removed and main intake is closed. its ok to start but with in 10 seconds the idle valve opens and the air goes though this intake at an extreamly loud volume and rpm goes up to 1500. after turning off and readjusting the idle valve to close the intake it restarts and ticks over at 600rpm. the second the power is reconnected to the valve up it goes back to 1500. we checked for leaks and none found. changed the idle valve and same. it looks like its getting the signal to open up from a faulty sensor but all check out ok. the pc when connected shows no fault codes. getting a pain in the neck. the volvo agent gave up and went home and said i should call the gm car dealer to see if they would know. please help.

volvo 8.1 ltr injection 2006-7

Like I asked before, need a SN or full model number, not year. Volvo doesn't go by year and in those years, there were several changes to the EFI system.

Re: high tickover

Now you see why I wanted a full model number or a serial number. Your 2006-7 engine is actually a 2004. Lots of differences in the EFI system between the two.
Below are links to the OEM diagnostic manual and a service bulletin with some manual corrections. You will have to do the tests to find your problem, there are quite a few things that can cause your problem that will not set a code.

Did they check the IAC per the manual on page 250 and 251? There is a wiring diagram for each item in the manual above. The IAC wiring is on page 250. The ECT wiring is found on 262, did they test the wiring? A high resistance would tell the ECM the engine is very cold and would cause a high idle. You could change the sender all day long and it won't fix the problem.
Throwing parts at a problem seldom cures the problem on EFI engines.

Re: high tickover

thanks don. they changed the icv twice but dont have the wiring diagram for this model all the others but not the gi-e. i checked the link you sent but not listed, the icv does seem to open when powered up but goes too far increasing the rpm. ill try to place the temp sender in boiling water and see if that makes a difference if you think it may help.

Re: high tickover

You aren't listening to what I said, the ONLY wiring diagrams are the ones for each individule item, and I gave 2 examples.
Also, with the ECT, the sender may be fine, but the wiring bad. Check the circuits as outlined in the manual.
