I have a 1989 PCM stern drive. (Volvo made the drive) I need to remove the gimble housing hinge pins to pull the drive. The ends of the pins have threaded holes that look about 7mm. Is there a puller for these? Where can I find one?
Once you disconnect the helmut from the drive so the drive doesn't turn, just turn the steering all the way to one side, block the drive so it won't drop down and use a brass drift and knock the pins all the way trough in towards the bellows. <br />If you use a steel drift of some kind you will expand the end of the pin and never get it through.

I wish it were that simple. The Helmet is part of the upper drive on this unit. The only way to pull the drive is with the pins. And they have an outer flange so they cant be driven in. Have to pull them arrrrrgh...<br />Yea I fish in the salty pond too
Do you have as picture of what you have. I was thinking PCM made replacements for a Volvo drive, but obviously not. Tried a google search and still nothing on PCM outdrives.......
I wish a manual were available. <br />I am working on the starboard but here is a close picture of the port pin and a full picture of the starboard drive. Sorry, can't help you. Those drives have nothing to do with any of the Volvo Penta's that I have ever seen, and I am a Volvo Certified tech on outdrives .........
never seen anything that even looks like it PCM still makes motors you may get help there<br /><br />slide hammer and a lot of heat looking at the photo they have a screw to keep it from comeing out and may have one you can see keeping it from going in<br /><br />the alum will expand quite a bit the pin pivots the inner part and should only be frozen on the outter <br /><br /> you have a good chance of haveing to ruin the rubber parts and need to be real carefull were the fuel tank fill and vents are<br /><br />tommays
I think that drive was made by starpower. most used a 71 series borgwarner clutch and had no shifting in the outdrive. while it looks similar to volvo its not a volvo. I still see ads for starpower power packages. good luck and keep posting
Thanks for the info. That helps a lot. You are correct. The arrangement is as follows. A 4 cly Mitsubishi 140 HP engine A Velvet 1500 series transmission and and an outdrive with no shift. All the bolts on the drive are metric. Stardrive must be overseas as well.
You might try contacting MarinePower about them. I'm sure you are going to need bellows and gaskets eventually. Sounds like they are setup a lot like the old Mercruiser TR drives.
