There were plenty of problems with 1953 but nothing compared to the 60's.<br /><br />Oh -- I bet you mean the motor..... The 7.5's were pretty darn good motors.<br /><br />Good luck!
I would install a new waterpump impeller. Available at a dealer - with a catch. The deck height of the '53 impeller is shorter than the '54 onwards impeller a dealer will have. You'll have to sand it down on a belt sander to match the height of the old one you're replacing...<br />- Scott
