Re: Hockey Playoffs
Yup bye bye Detroit, and as much as it pains me to say it the more deserving team won. The Oilers played with more heart and desire when it mattered most. Bitter fans will say that bad calls did us in, and in some cases they did, but Edmonton had some bad calls cost them as well. So no the officiating did not dictate the outcome of the series, although I will say it was the worst called series I can recall. Watching players go face first to block shots is what the playoffs should be about and Detroit was seemingly not willing to pay that price.

On a side note, this may very well be the end of an era. Quite possibly Steve Yzermans last game. For those who don't know this man came into the league a scoring phenom and quickly earned the praise of his peers. He then morphed his game to be an extremely well rounded player all for the sake of helping the team win. Despite this transition he will finish his career, if this is indeed the end, with a lock for the hall of fame and career stats reading 692g, 1,063a in 1,514 regular season games not to mention 3 Stanley Cup championships, and many other top 10 rankings while playing the first half of his career for mediocre at best teams. He will forever be known locally as "The Captain." A once in a lifetime player on a par with the likes of Lemieux, Messier, and his idol Trottier. So if this was his last game I will raise my glass to him and wish him all the best.

As for the rest of the playoffs, I really don't know. But after watching the first round Theodore is playing phenomenally in Colorado and Ottawa is rolling. Should be a great playoff season. Enjoy it all it is the beginning of a new era for the NHL.
