I'm not talking about the threaded hole, but the hole directly on top of the fuel pump mount. It is an irregular hole with no pin or bolt at all. In fact looking at it closer does appear to be a flaw of some sort. Vic, take a picture of yours if you get the chance. I do think this is something not meant to be there. I want to make sure we are looking at the same thing.

?????--Have u poured some oil in there ?????----Take a close look and can you see that it is the bottom of a threaded hole with a bolt in it .---Often on these motors the drill / tap breaks out a thin piece of casting at the bottom of a hole used for a fastener.----This bolt hole comes in horizontally from the front as mentioned by others a few posts ago !!

Just looked at a 1980 version of that motor.---Lo and behold it has the same hole.---No need to look at the half dozen or more blocks that I have to verify this again !!

I cannot get a decent shop of it with the pump in position and only on-camera flash for illumination

but I have marked on you picture what I think you are talking about with a white oval

The head of the bolt in question is marked with a red X

Probe the hole with piece if thin wire.. just to make sure it does not go through to the vacuum pulse port
