hey everyone im new to this site, but i have a 1976 mercury 115, model 1150 that wont spit water. It will start, and even in a bucket of water, it wont spit out any water, i have been messing with it for days now, and have pulled the hose to the hole out and cleaned it and it is clear now, and also tried to push air thru the other hoses and it won't do anything, any suggestions? i only used a hand pump for the air but no air will get thru the hoses? !! my e-mail is apoboy01@yahoo.com if you have any suggestions or just post em. thanks,
anthony

How long have you waited for it to start pe-eing?

Also, how old is your pump?

Anthony
I don't follow you on the "Hoses" and "Air" technique but the procedure for running your 115 out of the water is by using muffs connected to the Lower unit water intake with medium hose pressure. If no water comes out in say between 30-60seconds, turn the motor off. You will cause severe damage if you let it run hot.If you are using this technique with no water coming out of the telltale it is likely a worn or delaminated impeller. These need to be regularly replaced (app every 2 seasons).
This is a straightforward job that can be described by the posters here at iboats, or in your manual.
Below is a pic of a typical motor running on muffs

http://www.myfishingpictures.com/watermark.php?file=527/2274merc-peeing-med.jpg

Re: Hole won't spew

ive let it run for about 90 seconds max then shut her down because i didn't want to mess anything up, but no water will come out at all. Im thinking a mudd dobers nest maybe in the hoses b/c it was sitting for a while before i recently bought it, but i am going to put a new water pump and gaskets in it anyways. I put the lower end of the engine in the bucket of water just above the holes to suck water in so that we could push air thru the pee hole and see if the lines were clear, then we can clear them and check the water pump, thats what i was doing with that, herd it from norton marine by my home. i had muffs on it also before and still no peeing. hmmmm...

Try disconnecting the tell-tale hose inside the cowling from the insert where the water comes out, it is a larger diameter hose. Then use a garden hose with sometHing small on the end of it to force water back into the motor hose while the ENGINE IS NOT RUNNING. Like everyone says, do the water pump to make sure it capable of pumping water.

Some time ago, I did what 036 suggested when my 50 got plugged up with some mud in shallow water, except I ran a garden hose full blast into the intake vents in the lower unit. Cleared it in about 3 minutes.(Note, ENGINE NOT RUNNING WHILE FLUSHING)
