Homelite outboard control box & cables????

Dear members,

I have fallen heir to a 1967 Homelite 55hp outboard motor in good shape BUT without controls in cables, so 2 questions:

1. Does anyone know of someone with a functional Homelite control box/cables for sale
AND
2. Barring finding a Homelite box, I'm told that an Evinrude SIMPLICITY control box can be converted to work with a Homelite OB motor. Does anyone know enough about that conversion to talk me through the changeover?

My memory concerning Homelites isn't all that great, but I believe they used a Morse Single Lever control, which was pretty universal. The problem is probably going to be the fittings to adapt the 33C cables to the motor.

BTW, the Evinrude control is Simplex, not simplicity. I doubt that is going to work for you. That would be even harder to adapt the cables which were strictly OMC.

There are many Morse Controls on the auction site. Morse also made the Chrysler control, and several others. Here is just one example of the Morse Universal Remote control. Vintage Marine Boat Cabin Cruiser Runabout Morse Throttle Controller | eBay It uses 33C cables. As I previously pointed out, the adapters for the motor end of the cables is going to be your challenge. Maybe not that big a challenge, I just don't remember what they looked like.

If you could supply us with a picture of where the cables attach to the motor, It might jog my memory a bit.

Unfortunately, the OB is >300 miles from here and I cannot get to it right now.
(Also, I don't know how to make/post photos to a computer.)

There's any number of Morse controls for sale on EBAY but I find NO cables on the www nor even a photo of what they might look like. = It's been a >1/4 century since I had a 1962 Homelite OB motor on a big wooden skiff & just don't remember what they looked like.
(This motor is a rebuilt & unused afterward F-model. - I'm not even sure that Pierce-Fisher/Boston Whaler used the same cables, as they changed several things, according to the info on Fiberglassics.com.)

Nonetheless, thanks for trying. - I was hoping that there might be a current Homelite owner on this huge site.

Well, a bit of history for you. Morse Controls was bought out by Teleflex. Iboats sells Teleflex. Here is a picture of the Morse (now Teleflex) Universal 33C cable that was used on so many controls for Chrysler, Scott, McCulloch, I believe Homelite, etc.

I worked on a few Homelites when they were new, but unfortunately too few to have a great memory of the details. I also an a retiree of Morse Controls' Hynautic Division, so have some knowledge of their stuff. Just trying to help here.

EDIT: Do you know about the Antique Outboard Motor Club? There are a few Homelite owners in the club. You might try your question on the Ask-A-Member forum and see if you can get one's attention.

I can't help you with your outboard but if you want I can sure walk you through the very easy process of buying an cheap digital camera and getting pictures on a computer.

Find the Homelite/Bearcat outboard forum. There is a posting about the cable connections with pics.
I also have a Bearcat and the older two lever Simplex box and I don't think the type 400 cables can be converted. Maybe if your 'really' creative.

Oh well, you are in luck. Those are the same parts one would use to adapt a 33C cable to Evinrude/Johnson. Should be available here at iboats.

If this is for me (hope I didn't steal the thunder from satx) I have found the Teleflex/Morse adapter (PN:304939) for 33C cables to various J/E motors but what I need is 33C cables to my pre-1979 two lever Simplex box. The adapter for 33C to Simplex (PN:CA27321P) says 'do not' use on two lever controls (pre-1979). Have I missed something?

Maybe I'm missing something. 33C cables do not work in Evinrude Simplex controls. The pre-1979 Simplex control uses a type 400 cable and different motor ends than the 33C ends.

Yes, that was my conclusion also. Maybe I wasn't clear earlier. Anyway, I'm on the hunt for different controls for my bearcat. Pity, I just bought new cables from iBoats for my Evinrude which now needs a new home.
