Re: homemade bimini top

This is an easier project than you might think.

First, I'd recommend a couple resources.
Sailrite (www.sailrite.com) sells kits (they're pricey). But they also have instructions on their site downloadable directions.

A really good book for this type of work, is "The Big Book of Boat Canvas" by Karen Lipe - if your library doesn't have it, it's easy to find online.

I've found ths forum helpful http://www.get-up-and-go.com/wwwboard/wwwboard.html It's the Upholster Magazine Online forum.

Some sources:
www.outdura.com/ - fabric VERY similar to Sunbrella, but much cheaper
http://www.rochfordsupply.com/ - all kinds of hardware, fabrics, etc.

Some cautions.
Enough fabric for your project might get heavy, so shipping costs can eat into some of the online savings!
Make sure to get the right thread and needles - either one could ruin your project.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the links, Ed F. I'm going to make a top for my old runabout, and now I have the info I've been looking for!
