Honda 10 hp

I have a 1983 honda 10 hp fourstroke that I can't get running.
bought a new needle seat for it but lost it on the floor. when I put starting fluid in the carb it starts and dies as soon as it is used up. It seems to be not shooting fuel into the firing chamber. bad carb or fuel pump?

You should be able to disconnect the fuel line to the carb and then try starting the engine and see if the pump is picking up fuel. If not then it is not working.

Then again it could just need the carb rebuilt.

I have not been able to find a carb rebuild kit for this motor. They want to sell each item seperatly.
