Hello All
Many of you won't remember but I availed myself of the considerable talent here last spring and was able to resurrect a very old boat and motor. It was a dream come true for me and I've had many enjoyable times on Lake Wylie since around last June.
Tuesday however was quite something again.
An 80-year-old man hit me going roughly 70MPH with his bass boat and nearly killed me. He definetly did a number on my boat. Even though the guy was ejected from his boat he and I are both alright. He at least had his kill-switch lanyard attached so the engine quit when he punched out. And, I didn't sink into the 42 degree water either.
Unbelievable to say the least - I feel very lucky, angry, and amazed all at the same time.
PS That black mark on my back is from the rub rail on the starboard side of his bass boat!!!

Glad to see you were unhurt!

Hope you get on the water soon. If this guy was half respectable he should offer to pay for the fixes.

Hopefully his liability insurance carrier will take care of it. Thank God no one was hurt. Pretty amazing............

1) Uhhhh . . . no (reference to the thread title)

2) Holy flyin' flip!!!

3) I'm thinkin' the perp should just hand you the keys to what's left of his bass boat and call it even. I'm thinking he doesn't need them anymore

Scary, glad you're OK. Keep that shirt for a souvenir, it'll be good for stories. Pretty amazing that neither of you were hurt, considering the speed and water temp.!

wow glad you weren't hurt. i owuld say to claim it on insurance but unless you have your boat insured for a good value they would just total you out at 500 call it a day probably.

hope you get her back on the water soon.

Re: Hopin' This'll Buff Out

So let me get this straight. From the pics and your description of the skid mark on your . . . uhhh . . . shirt . . . :D

He's flyin' along at 70. Your reading a book, sitting in the bow. He hits your starboard side at an angle slightly aimed aft (coming from your starboard bow). He crosses at the helm, takes off your wheel, and exits while ripping off your port rubrail. And his starboard rubraill skims your back. You must've been turned away as it appears the mark is on your left side. Is that correct? If so, please tell us you were not underway  Just sayin' . . . :p

P.S. I don't really care if you were underway as you just can't go around jumping other guy's boats. I stopped doing that years ago . . .

Those pictures and that shirt sure do tell a story.......... but it is even better that you are around to tell it.

Well, it's replaceable and you are still with us.

Want to start a historical restoration thread :)
