Well, all I can say is there have been more than 80 journalists killed in this war to date.

Apparently you and I take great joy in Ms Carrol's safe return, although for different reasons.

^^No sympathy here, go to a war zone and expect your Press Badge to be a Get-Out-Of-Jail-Free card? THEY HATE ANYONE WHO ISN'T MUSLIM!!!! They don't care if you want to report the "truth", if you aren't with them, you are against them. Journalists get in the way of the war, compromise soldier safety, and rarely report the unadulterated truth.

Wearing a "Christian Science Monitor" hat must be like a deer with a bullseye on it to the terrorists.

Amen heycods.....they could've been doing things like this, in which case everyone on this board would be screaming about "proof" that these people are pure evil.

I'm glad she was treated well. If nothing else, it shows that our "enemy" whoever that is, may not be the devil afterall. Who could have possibly imagined that those evil, soul-less, muslim heathens could be capable of such a thing?

Where is it out of line!?!?

Somehow some of you are accusing her of some sort of elaborate ruse, to what end I have no clue, and you cite as evidence the fact she was returned safely, and not beaten or beheaded or something.

And I am out of line???

So, (Edit)Mrbscott... How is the rerun photo you posted any different from Jill crying on video, pleading for her life??

No problem...

But just for the sake of argument, let's just say you are right, and this is a complete scam.

One would assume that since the bodyguard was killed, he was not part of the scam.

What would Jill Carroll have to gain by this? No one was arguing, to my knowledge, that the US gov't should publically give in to demands--everyone knows they can't do that and why they can't.

Perhaps there was some sort of back-channel ransom paid by the CSM or even the gov't. Everyone knows they would have to deny that...So what? Perhaps Ms Carroll was in cahoots with the whole thing, and gets a cut off the top of the ransom. Again, while that would be reprehensible, so what? A million $ or so. Haliburton would waste that much over there on a business lunch.

Maybe Ms. Carroll is scamming for a book deal? Well, being treated well, and gaining 20 lbs in the ordeal, is hardly fodder for a dramatic book. But so what if she is? What political gain is achieved?

Perhaps the 20 lbs she gained is from carrying Zalquari's (sp?) baby? Again, who cares, and what political goal would this achieve?

Re: Hostage,Jill Caroll is in no danger.

PW, You and Scott can just forget about the whole thing....Or not. She will allways be a "victum" in your opinion. That won't change.
And when she appears on Oprah, telling Oprah's eager audience of "how misunderstood her captors are", her "conversion" from Christianity to Islam, you will STILL join the Oprah school of "America's enemys are our friends", in drinking the Kool-Aide.
And you will surely find the now-predicted "Frontline" segment rivetting... Only to come back here and state that because it was "60minutes", it wasn't on "Frontline".

I can only try, and I always will,PW.You're good people. I hate seeing people hurling themselves off cliffs and such.

My take on her crew, is that they were NOT part of the cast, and that perhaps the producer needed some increased urgency to the deception...Or maybe he would be too hard to actually detain. After all, even kidnappers have day jobs -- or maybe they had 2 year olds (future bombs in the making), and knew how you just can't turn away for a second without them getting into the cleaning fluid under the sink. yup..
"Who has time for all that? Besides, he is just breathing because i let him breathe.", says our mutant kidnapper.
PW, they had no problem taking planes full of innocent lives, and flying them into buildings full of innocent life. It is thier favorite anti-personell tactic! BTW, did i mention; they strap bombs to their own kids, and send them into food courts? I guess in the abscense of an Abrahms M1A2, "any port in a storm." eh mate?

Or maybe her crew had a chivalrous bone, and attempted to fight-off the "detainors". Maybe you ARE correct. But I simply will not buy it.
And in this, you will NEVER convince ME.

From the opening act, I've followed the press releases from the kidnappers, and saw a confortable, relaxed actor. She just wasn't cnvincing me -- Until the one where she briefly broke-down in tears and got frantic...But only long enough to see that it too, was just a badly taken cut, albeit, a bit better effort. The body language and lack of red eyes still made that act obvious -- but that one DID have me a bit more concerend for her safety. Nice take, Jill!
Today, you will see her still wearing the burka....
There is a reason, and we will find out together what that reason is. (hint: it starts with a "C").And you may not want to believe this, but I still hope I am wrong with the conversion, book deal, and TV gihaad..I would MUCH prefer her to declare to the world on Oprah, her support of the war on Islamic terror, and her to say "I hereby pledge all the proffits from my upcomming book to go to the municipality of Bagdhad for infrastructure repairs"..
Fat chance, but I hope she does that, as opposed to her supporting her captors in word and song.

So PW, this entire dramma obviously catches you still snoring-away. So be it...Sleep tight, dont let the bed bugs bite... and all that "silly conservative war-hawk conspiracy theorum".

I don't doubt in the least she does not exactly share your worldview, 12 footer.

I have no doubt she is sympathetic, to some degree, with the Iraqi people. To my knowledge, so are we, and that is why we have American kids dying over there. It is "Operation Iraqi Freedom" after all.

I know of no Iraqis who flew any planes into any buildings.

I think you have finally gone off the deep end slugging down kool aid, 12.

My hope is eventually you recover.

So why waste the time? Not that I agree with all or any of your viewpoints on the subject at hand, but,I mean really, you could argue with PW2 over whether the sky was blue. Some people were just born to be conflictual. Why not attempt another near impopssible feat.Like juggling ten objects while singing opera. You may be able to conquer it one day. If you keep feeding the monkeys ,they will eventually sling excrement on you. :)

I have no public opinion on the Jill Carroll topic. If she offers confort to her captors once stateside,I might.

:) Now that we have heard from her spoke person today, maybe some will give her some credence instead of rushing to judgement negatively!!! I wonder how many on this forum would not have done the same to stay alive!!!! And how many would not sign a book deal of their ordeal if it were offered!!!! ;)

And that is precisely what i meant. No point in arguing any further with the koolaid drinkers.
I tried, but why fault me for trying? I like PW.

Not fault finding 12er ,just offering a hand of advice that you are already aware of. :(

I know that God says we should love thy enemies, but do we have to like em too? :)

BTW,I don't consider PW2 as my enemy, but I also can't consider him as my friend either.Probably the most negative unapproachable creature I've ever come across though.
