hour meter help on Yamaha engine

I need to add some hours to my new hour meter and I was wondering if I leave my ignition key in the on position will it hurt my outboard engine.
I have a 2006 Yanaha 60hp 4 stroke.
When I turn the key on my gages come to life but I don't know if any power goes to the engine.

Bad idea friend, you could do some damage to the charging system or worse.

The best was to do this would be to supply 12Volts to the guage by it self with a low amp battery or possibly remove the motor from the picture by only having the accessory wire connected to the battery that powers the guages.
