hour meter on f60 4 stroke tiller

Hi guys,<br /><br />have just bought a 60 hp four stroke yamaha tiller that has an hour meter on it. the only problem is that it is switched to the on postion on the key. this works fine when the engine is not running but it doesn't work when engine is running.<br /><br />what other wire should i tap into.<br /><br />Regards<br /><br />Kellaig

I am not understanding the question. does this setup use a key switch?

hi rodbolt,<br /><br />The hour meter is an analog meter. It is wired in such a way that when the ignition key is left at the on position and the motor is not running the meter will work. <br /><br />After starting the motor the key returns to the on position but the meter will not work when the motor is running. As soon as the motor is switched off using the red emergency stop button the meter will begin to work.<br /><br />That is there is a circuit through the key when the motor is not running but as soon as the motor is running this circuit is stopped somehow.<br /><br />Regards<br /><br />Kellaig

hello<br /> what color wires did you tap for a positive and a negative?<br /> you should be using yellow from the switch for key on 12v positive and a block ground for a negative.

hi rodbolt,<br /><br />i tapped into the blue wire instead. Is this the yellow wire next to the blue wire. I grounded it to the block.<br /><br />regards<br /><br />Kellaig

wrong wire<br /> thats why it did not work. its also why it is worthwhile to study the servive manuals, the rigging guide in particular. you tapped into the enrichment circuits.not the ign circuit.
