89 omc 5.7L cobra. I replaced the starter motor and the new one didnt have location for the purple/black 16ga. wire. So i left it off. Is that the wire that goes straight to the coil to give it 12v ? I hooked up the yellow/red 12ga wire. Can i reroute the purple/black or do i need to put on the right solenoid on the starter?

Ayuh,... That's probably an automotive starter...
You need the Right starter, with that terminal...

Well the one i replaced was an auto starter. The new one is for off road 4x4 with a curved gear and it doesnt bang the flywheel. Also it can get wet and still work. it also has spark resistance. I have the original solenoid but was wondering if i could send the wire somewhere else.

Automotive starters are not spark protected. if you get gas fumes in your engine compartment (probably from other automotive parts) the spark from the starter and and will cause an explosion and fire.
Get marine parts where needed, if you don't know, ask first.

Don, you are right. However, my starter is spark resistant. I built it. So i should know. I was only looking for an answer to my question about the wire. But no need. Again i figured it out. I dont even know why i bother to post threads... Y'all tip toe thru the questions and only give generic answers. Just keep patting yourselves on the back for a job well done.
