I don't have a thermostat in mine, I missed it by a year, so it does take longer to warm up, and never really gets warm. I do run it about a 1/4 turn richer, but it seems to start right up. I am going to keep it in and run it another month or so. I don't have a trailer, so pulling it out for the winter is a one time per year job.
After that, I will go back to what I used the last 2 years - a jon boat with a Minnkota trolling motor. When the ice starts to build, I lock it on a slow speed pointing forward, then sit in the front of the boat with an oar and spud bar breaking ice as I go!
