How do I accomplish this?

Just purchased an 86 Cruisers Elegante with twin crusader 270's and velvet drives. What is the best way to hook up water to this beast to run the engines?

Ayuh,.....

Just like any other boat motor,...
You've got to force feed it Water.....
Depending on How,+ Where it gets it's water is the only difference.....

there are several flusers, the fake a lake fits on the outside of the hull over most strainer screens or you can add the perko style on the suction side of the pump. before any dry start be sure to lube the cutlass bearings with a mix of dishwashing liquid and water.

Thanks Rodbolt, it takes in water via thru hull fittings in the bottom, you mention perko so I will search for that.

Also thanks for the advice about the cutlass bearing, I am a novice with this setup and don't want to kill it.

I have a thru hull pickup and use a Groco strainer in my boat. One like this:

I simply screw the top off and put a garden hose in it.

Like so: (It may be hard to pick out in the picture, but it shows the top off of the strainer with the hose in it)

Yep, that's how I do it Mark. The hose in the strainer works great. Excess water goes out the pickup and onto the ground under the boat, but the engine takes all it wants.

ooooooookayyyyy looks like this boat does not have any strainers, that cannot be a good thing.

guess I will be adding them.
