Sand it down with 220 and then 400 grit. Go to Home depot and buy a Preval sprayer for 5 bucks. Thin your Gelcoat using 20% Acetone and spray on 3-4 coats. Cover it with some saran wrap or spray it with some Poly vinyl alcohol so it will cure, and then the next day sand it with 220, 400 800 and 1000 grit.

I got it all finished and looking nice. I took the boat out this past weekend and no problems with the repair. I appreciate the help of iboats. I feel like you aren't a real boat owner until you have to fix a hole in it.

The knowledge I gained from this small fiberglass repair will help me in the future. I already used what I learned here to redo the tabbing on one of my stringers and I also successfully repaired a rust hole in my truck using polyester resin and 1708.

I think someone should change the title of this to "there's a hole in my boat" and maybe sticky it or something so others looking to do a puncture repair can reference it.

Use the Metric sys. to mix your resin. Mix @ 1.5% MEKP. You'll have about 20 mins @ 75? temps. With that big of hole I'd go CSM 1708 CSM 1708 CSM. You don't need the Gelcoat. Put some saran wrap over the patch and it'll cure hard and tack free the next day. On the outside use CSM 1708, CSM CSM then Resin with some glass bubbles for fairing compound. Sand smooth and 3-4 coats of Gelcoat using a PreVal Sprayer. Sand, buff, Polish...DONE!!!!
