Just bought a new glomex ariel for my marine radio.I've never had to wire one up before.

How do I connect the screw-in jack that goes into the back of the set to the co-ax cable?
Do I just have to solder the center core in and push the shielding into the rest of the hole while making sure the 2 don't touch or do I have to solder both the shielding and center core into the correct places? It looks like there might be a part of my plug missing as there's a screw thread around the inner where the shielding should sit-but it'll be awfully tight if there's a screw to go in there too.
This is hard to answer. Some RF coax plugs are pressure fit (i.e. no soldering necessary) but others require the shield/center pin to be soldered. Without seeing the actual plug, it would be hard to tell which one you have.

Amir

What type of a plug do you want to fit to the coaxial cable, most cable connectors are of the PL259 type to be used with or without the reducing bush, depending on the coaxial cable size,
normally the centre core is soldered to the centre pin,and the screen is folded back on the outer casing. the reducing bush is then pressed over the screen and outer cable and then the plug is assembled (RG58U or RG59U) >If the thicker cable is being used (RG213 or equivalent) then the inner and outer parts of the cable are soldered to the plug. (centre core and screen)
Have a look at a ham radio supply store for information regarding soldering of coaxial plugs to coax,
Regards,
William Wright
