How do I dispose of a bad 17 foot fiberglass hull?

I bought a project boat and have concluded that I do not have enough time to fix her up. It has a very nice trailer and a good hard to find out-drive I plan to sell off, but the engine and boat floor are junk. I don't really want to put $2500 into a boat that's worth $3000 when in good condition.

Where does one normally dispose of a fiberglass hull and how much does it cost to do so?

You would be surprised of how many of those types you will find on craigslist. You can find lots of project boats on there, maybe you can recoupe your money and sell everything together. Just make sure the buyer knows what he is getting and be resonable, or it will never sell. (Although I do get tired of seeing all the old junk boats on craigslist myself, but maybe others don't)

Did you check into any of your local dumps. I have heard that some of them will take them. Not sure what it would cost though.

Good luck!

maybe sink it an make an artifical reef. If you remove any hazardous chemicals the authorities may let you do that in the right spot.

I know they will sink old warships out in the ocean.

But I don't think anyone would want you doing that.

Contact your local county landfill and ask what required to dispose of the hull.

Chop it up into garbage can size pieces with a chain saw , circular saw, recip. saw, etc. Then put in out with the trash a little at a time. I would bet a 17foot would not take more than two to three months to get rid of that way. :)

First put it out in the front yard with a sign that reads free. Tell them you will haul it free but you keep the trailer. Then do it.

If it doesn't go for free. Put a sign out $500 and either someone will stop and make an offer which of course you will take or someone will steal it.

I did the Sawzall thing on one really bad junker once. Although, it's a lot less work and a lot more effective to put a FREE sign on it and put the boat by the side of the road... You'd be surprised by what some people will take!
