How do I find the year on a 40hp Johnson?

We acquired a 40hp Johnson outboard motor. It runs great, but the person whom we acquired it from is unable to tell us what year or anything about the motor. I found a set of numbers on the motor. Of course there are quite a few numbers. But there was 2 sets in the same place this is what they are 40EL74S J4035941 If anyone can help in this matter it would be greatly appreciated. The motor is in good condition, runs good, but is too big for our boat. It comes with the steering and controls. We are looking to sell it, but would first like to find out more about the motor.

Thank you for the help. By any chance how would I find out what the motor is worth?
