I got a 1961 Evinrude 40HP 35524 and it came with a throttle box with buttons for electric shift and a switch for choke, there is no wiring harness on the motor just 2 dangling wires for the kill switch, other than that no wires attached to the motor so I don't know what it will accept, the throttle box has the battery cables and then a 10 pin big female plug to attach to a wiring harness, wondering how I can tell what this motor will accept, electric shift? remote choke?

Are you saying that the entire harness is missing off of the motor? If it is, you will have to hunt the salvage sources or make a new harness yourself. The first thing you need to get is an oem manual it will have the wiring diagram in case you need to build a new harness.

Yeah the harness is missing, I have manuals that I am digging through, still getting used to finding what I am looking for in them specific to my motor, I am thinking of making my own harness instead of buying one for $150 like most go for, I was just wondering what features my motor supports as far as wiring?

If you are using clymers or seloc, you'll be hunting a long time if you get it right. If you have the oem manual it'll have everything specific to your motor.
