Just changed the thermostat because the engine seems to run very cool. The temperature guage never seems to move too much. When putting on the engine flushing ears and I start the engine, the water stream telltale starts within seconds. Is this normal? Isnt the water supposed to wait to get past the thermostat at temperature before it comes out the telltale?

If the tell-tale is very warm, the t-stats working.

If you put the t-stat in wrong and messed up the gasket, it could be running cool.

hope it helps

Did you already check the tempature setting on your thermostat. We just winterized a Four Winns V228, which has the fresh water hook up for flushing. When using the muffs keep in mind that the water is colder now. We cut back on the amount of water going through in order to raise the tempature, keeping in mind not to close the water off so much as to burn up the impellar on the raw water pump. We also enagaed the throttle only position and ran the engines at about 1000-1200 rpm.

there is a by pass that alows water to come out until the temp goes up and thermo's open,,the water will feel cool until up to temp,,then it will feel warm as thermo's open and continue the flow of water thru the engine
