Re: How do I remove 5.7 Volvo engine
alrighty. it sounds pretty easy to align anyway. thanks!
You do not have an engine that get aligned with an alignment bar, and I have a feeling that is what mxcobra was thinking, as he has a Mercruiser.
To easily remove the engine from a Volvo with your type of drive, all you have to remove is the upper gear box, like this. Then disconnect the hose where it attaches to the drive.
No need to remove the whole drive. That's a lot of work.
With the upper gear box off, you will have plenty of room to remove the clamp ring. Just remove the 6 bolts holding the clamp ring in place, and you are done on the outside of the boat. The ring will pop out of the way when you lift the engine.
Now just disconnect the engine and lift it out flywheel housing and all.
To replace the primary drive shaft bearings in the flywheel housing, there is a link below for a .pdf file on replacing them.
