My grease gun is hanging on a nail with the nozzle pointed up...never had any leaking problems, but generally wipe entire grease gun down with a rag before and after use....
I keep mine in an old Plastic Waste Paper basket. It catches any of the mess.
The secret is the pull back the spring and activate the lock to take all the pressure off the Grease in the cartridge.
Without the pressure, there is no reason for it to leak.
How true and that works for me too, when I do it. I mean grease is oil and soap. Constant pressure on the mix squeezes the oil out of the soap. After the Oring on the plunger gets some age, it ceases to seal very well and out comes the oil.
Pull the plunger back to release pressure and store nose down to avoid air pockets. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight to keep grease from thinning out.
If you need to add grease every time you launch, that grease is going somewhere, likely out your rear seals. I have bearing buddys and never have to add grease once they are full.
Plunger back and nose down seems to be doing the trick.
Just curious why a couple of squirts of grease, keeping the cap just off it's seat and pushing against the spring, will blow my seals. Been doing it for 20 yrs. w/no problems yet.

I am leaking grease, but not through the rear seals. It is leaking around the Bearing Buddy cap (the piece that holds the zerc) and ends up inside the dust cover. Is this not normal?
If you are over filling them then yes it's normal... They have a relief hole They should only be filled until the plunger can be wobbled slightly. If you are filling correctly and they are leaking then they are defective.
Every grease gun I've ever had leaked around the bottom- expensive ones or cheap ones- good synthetic grease or cheap walmart grease. I wrap a rag around them and tape into place. I always just assumed it was the heat thinning out the grease. They usually don't leak in the winter but they do the rest of the year. Of course I'm also in Florida and there's no insulation in the garage...
