I only buy quality stainless steel hardware. The boat gets a hose down after each outing, a quick run on the muffs to flush the motor, and washed and waxed about once a week while at the shore.
There are still a few outside fittings that are not stainless (like the bow navagation light) that will be replaced sooner or later with stainless. Otherwise, the salt doesn't affect the boat as much as I thought.
It the boat has chrome plated zinc parts, they quickly become sacrificial anodes.
Hence, stainless steel hardware.
Oh, and tinned marine wire is mandatory.
