First one was home signal ... comcast. This one is office signal ... embarq. Home is better than office!

your not testing your ISP , you are testing the entire link, your PC,your connection to your router, your connection to your isp, your isp connection to the local ring and then to the server of speed test.

My isp is embarq, a phone company, who has to connect to Verizon to connect to speedtest in a neighboring county. Probably through a different interexchange carrier.

No doubt about it, amendegw. I hate to live in the past but just 20+ years ago I was paying under $10/mo for telephone and TV was still free. I know you get more for your money today, but;

a) do we really need it, and
b) 15x's worth?

As seen in the OP's post, I can get much faster internet from Cox if I choose to pay more. Mine is fast enough for my purposes, so I'm happy.

One thing that is curious, though, is that even with a much faster download, his upload is slower than mine. Anyone know what's up with that?
