How easily should a crankshaft on a 115 rotate when turned by hand?

Before I torqued down the bolts that join the two halves of the crankcase I could turn the crankshaft with one hand. Once I torqued down the 6 main bolts and the 8 flange bolts I have to use all my might to turn it with 2 hands. This is griping the top of the crankshaft with no flywheel on it of course. Anyway I was wondering how easily that should turn. Does this sound like a problem or is it normal?

It should still turn as easily as it did before tightening those bolts.

You have the center crankshaft main bearing out of line... the centering hole of the braring sleeve is not aligned with the centering pin in the block. Tightening the crankcase bolts down is causing the crankshaft to flex.

Listen to what Joe says. You put something together incorrectly.

Is there any way of knowing for sure that bearing is aligned? When I rotate the bearing I can't tell if the hole is lined up or if the split in the bearing is stoping it when it rotates. It's hard to explain just what I mean.

Once the bearing sleeve hole drops down over the pin in the block, you won't be able to turn the sleeve anymore. Wiggle it back and forth and you'll be able to tell. Also, smack the bottom of the crank with a rubber mallet, toward the flywheel. That may help.

As you turn the sleeve. you'll feel it click into the centering pin. Hopefully you didn't force the pin into the block/crankcase.

I assume you weren't using an OEM shop manual.
