how far in the water should my motor sit.

i have an 86' bass buggy pontoon 20 footer. im running a 50hp force. how for should the motor sit in the water. we were anchord and doing some swimming this weekend and i noticed that the cavitation plate is about an inch out or maybe even with the top of the water. thank you in advance for your thoughts.

Far from a expert but i have the exact same boat with a 110 Johnson & mine sits mabe 6" under water sitting still--

While its sitting still it doesn't make any difference due to most toon often sit low in the back, How ever while your running at WOT the water should be about level with the cavation plate on the motor.

If the boat runs okay now it is fine where it is, every boat si a bit different and there si no one place for a motor, on pontoon they generally sit lower than on a mono hull boat to help get the prop in clean water so I would say you are high but if it run without cavitating you are good.

I believe I'm missing something important. If the motor is hung on the transom & the transom is supported by the motor pod, shouldn't the cav plate end up around the bottom of the motor pod? How is the cav plate at the water surface? If the 100 Hp motor has a long leg of about 25", how is the cav plate not 25" below the transsom?
