its 70hp johnson

so with fuel and everything i figure 1100 pounds Ill put picture on but im just curious how fast you guys think it will go.

what do you think this boat would be good for, water sking, fishing
i need some ideas or i might put the motor on a salt water lobster skiff :(

If that old 70 is running like a top and you aren't pushing a bunch of waterlogged foam around......I think you could see 40MPH.

Were would the foam be, as far as u can tell most of the boat is just fiberglass and some places have wood in between for structural reasons im guessing

the outboard runs great, i don't know if its at full output, put it purs like a kitten :p

it actually runs better then my truck :(

I try not to give unasked for advice, but I'm going to make an exception. :D You sound like a novice boater. And that looks like a lot of motor for that little boat. And I imagine there is a reason you got it for $100. Before you take it out, you might want to install a kill switch with a clip on it to attach to yourself. I'd also make sure everyone had a life jacket on and you had all necessary safety equipment, especially a loud or very visible signaling device. And remember, it sounds like the water is going to be very cold and it wouldn't be comfortable if you went in for an unintended swim.

Re: How fast will my new boat go

I grown up on the water, and this is the first boat ive accualy owned, but ive driven alot of boats and understand everything your saying

ive decided to probably just wait for the water to warm up, like you said if i fall off i would last all that long.

the exact reason why i started this post was because of the statement you made

That looks like a lot of motor for that boat, it does but it also looks like it could be alot of fun

thanks for the advice :)

I got it for 100$ because my dad owns a business in marine hydraulics and his parter passed away, this was his partners boat and his wife sold it to me for 100$ it was suposidly being used a few years ago

nothing seriously wrong with it, not in great shape but it seems to be structuraly sound and everything works and is free.

That's a funny looking outboard - never saw one with such a large lower unit. Doesn't look very fast to me. My guess is about 0 mph. :)

It does indeed look like it could be a lot of fun. I wouldn't mind making it the 4th boat in my driveway. It would be the fastest I think. Shouldn't be too terrible on gas either considering its size.

Dont gotta- lived in Phippsburg a spell! Also on Popham Beach! And by Days ferry ( on middle Rd), oh, cant forget Kingfield...

Great area. Miss it a lot.

As for speed, that thing does not weigh much for the 70hp on there. Plenty fast I am sure.

I think he was making a joke that the lower unit WAS the barrel. :D I was confused until I went back and looked at the photo. Then I had a little laugh.
