I am looking to buy my first boat, one of the options is a Seaswirl Striper 2301 walk around with a Volvo 5.0 GXi-270 HP I/O engine, I am planning on using for family fishing in the Titusville area, can anyone tell me how good/bad is this boat compare with the top ten?s for this central/south Florida.
Is this the right engine for this boat?

As far as Seaswirl goes I assume like any boat when taken care of they are good products.

As far as the motor goes I would say in that size look to get it equipped with single or dual outboards. That I/O is going to take up a good amount of fishing space, where an outboard would give that all back to you. Not to mention outboard will be more economical, and for the power will get the boat running more mph.

A good friend of mines dad has a Sea Swirl 2301 walk around. I just inverviewed him for about 20 minutes befor replying to this. He has had his for 5 years.

Trailering: On a load rite easy trailer, tandom axles, disk brakes on surge hook up. Does very well. Tows it with a Dodge Ram 1500 4.7l with 4.10 gears. Strongly recomends the disc breaks. When breaking cant tell its back there.

Hardware: hinges and such, A little above average. Better then on my Wellcraft. Not as good as Gradywhite.

Gell coat: All he said is its fine. Looking at it no blisters, but he takes very good care of the boat.

Manuverability around the docks: A little prop stear. Cant launch at dead low tide. Deep draft. Wind will blow it off the dock when comeing in so be good with a hook and spring line.

Underway: Does a nice job getting up on plain. Trims well with the trim tabs. Cuts threw the chop of other boats in a buisy bay with ease. Reverse chimes spray the water out to help keep things dry. 3-4 footers are handled well. Any launches give you a softer landing with the deep v of there hulls and there weight. Harder ride when fuel gets low.

Under cabin. Pretty bear bones. Not alot of flair down below. Get the plumbed in toilet.

Foward deck: Not really used that often. Just for docking. Wife wishes there was a pad for sunning. Get the windless. Get the ancor 1 size bigger then recomended.

Motor: Yamaha 250. No inboard. your on your own there. He said More motor the better. Big water with some buddies, no replacement for displacement. Would go bigger motor if he could.

Overall 8 out of 10. His wife rated it 4/10.

I've got a 2000 1850 Seaswirl which I've loved since day 1. Seaswirl isn't the finest boat out there, but just may be the best value.

I never had the chance to ride on one but have seen many offshore and they ride very nice on plane in normal Seas 4 to 5 foot. Cut the Swells very nice and stay dry inside.
