Well, when you work alone you have to be a bit inventive - so searched through the garage and came up with this (From old bolens tractor) set up as in picture . put bent part against my side and used big socket with good leverage...came right loose....now, need to find a puller to get that flywheel off....looked inside...coil cracked just as described when they go!!!!
I think I can use the same proceedure to put nut back on - btw do you grease the fittings inside when re-assembling flywheel?

I have also posted a picture of the viking I am working on - although there are three holes on the top there I am not sure if they are threaded (need to double check) - if not, not sure how to get flywheel off - anyone have any ideas?

Thank you,

Lee

Use a puller, that's what the 3 tapped holes are for.

Look under Top Secret File sticky for more info.

Don't put any grease on the crankshaft when you're putting the flywheel back on. In fact, you should clean the crank shaft with solvent and be sure it's very clean before the flywheel goes on. Then you'll need a torque wrench (not sure of the torque number) when tightening the flywheel nut down. A harmonic balancer puller (with 3 -1/4 x 20 grade 8 bolts) is used to remove the flywheel.
