How is Boating on Great Lake, Ohio?

Well, my company has me on the move again. I am currently working down by Great Lake, in Coldwater, Montezuma, St Henry, and some other small towns. I love the area, still rural, reminds me of how my home used to be. Anyways, I have been driving all around Great Lake, and seen all the boats on there. My question is, how is the boating here? I guess the average depth is 8 feet or so, from what I hear? Is this really a man-made lake? Needless to say, I found someone willing to rent out the boat, but I am kinda hesitant into jumping on this idea. I would kinda like to know more about depth, chop, and scenery before paying this amount.

Besides, if I do this and don't come home with some good pictures for my fiancee, I'm as good as dead. So, is it a nice boat ride, and would you consider it a desireable boating location?

Do you mean Grand Lake out side of Saint Marys,Ohio? If so you had better check out the water quality as this past Memorial day their was a health worning not to swim/ski as the water and latley said not to let your dog get in the water due to polution. Try and look on the Dayton daily news website(Dayton Ohio) to find a related artical on this subject. I usto go their for years anthe time was 2 in fact Worked on a dairy farm west of Anna in high school and went with them sking on the weekends.Have nephiews who have homes on Ft.Lormie lake thas just south of Grand lake and I go to Indian Lake thats east of their as well.If I can help just let me know good luck.

There aren't many lakes in the western part of Ohio. I've been on Indian lake but never Saint Marys. These lakes were part of the old canal system that went from lake Erie to the Ohio river. Just north of Columbus is Alum Creek which is unlimited horse power and a decent lake for boating of all types. Just east of there is Buckeye lake and then to the north is Delaware lake.

If you take U.S. 30 east, just past Mansfield is Charles Mill reservoir. Only 10 hp limit. Just south of there is Pleasant Hill Lake (that is where I'm at every weekend). Then on the southwest side of Mansfield in the small town of Lexington is Clearfork reservoir. Clearfork is a great Musky lake that is not too widely known.

I've been trying to get people to put in suggestions for a get together, but nobody seems too interested. I'd still like to meet up and swap sea stories :D......................SS

Well, although I'm fairly young, I feel I have a few good sea stories to tell. I am always ready to meet someone and talk about boating and the like. I am staying in Lima right now, but more than willing to meet up on the weekend perhaps.
