How many folks out there do not trust their oil injection system? I have a 2001 Merc 200 outboard. I'm on my 3rd powerhead now!! The oil injection system quit -- no warning -- and it threw a rod at the end of it's first summer. Luckily it was under warranty. Dealer put a new power head on it and messed it up testing it. They said they "set it rich" so it wont happen again. I dont trust it. Several have said to RUN PREMIX! that seems like a hassle when you have a 52 gallon gas tank. I still have 3 years warranty on the engine. What would you do?

If you have a 3 year warranty left, I would leave it alone. They are generally very reliable on the Mercs if maintained well. Also, you may want to check with the dealer to see if disconnecting it will void the warranty. If not, then it's up to you to decide how much you're willing to trust it. 3 times rebuilt is a lot to blame on the injection. Did they ever replace the complete oil injection system after the first rebuild? They should have! Sounds like a lean running condition could be creating your problems anyway.

dillweed, have heard of folks dis-connecting the oiler, and you will get quite a few different views on this, but with 3 years left on warranty, I would leave it alone and maybe they can get the bugs worked out before that time is up. After that then its up to you.
