I have a Force US Marine 1989 85hp motor, does anybody know approximately how many miles per gallon this motor gets, boat is 500lbs? I am trying to figure out how big of a topside fuel tank to buy.

i dunno so much about mpg on the water... but i have a 85 force on a 1986bayliner capri that i just finished a total redo on.. i chose to use the 6 gallon fuel tanks for a couple reasons....1) not that heavy when full. 2) a 16oz bottle of 2 stroke oil is the perfect ratio for a 6 gallon tank.

the other day myself the wife and kids and all out junk took the little boat out and ran about 5 hours of hard playing in it.. tubing and just running....
but 5 hrs on 2 tanks (12 gallons)is about max....

The old force is thirsty. it is not fuel efficient and never was... but a good engine and a freindly one.....

My 99 75hp I'm guessing gets around 3 mpg. I can suck down a full 20 gallon tank if I run it all day.

I have a 20 gallon tank on my 1987 Force 85 HP, it can drain that tank in day if ran hard. I have refueled a time or two while on the water. I think it done in gallons per hour at WOT, and I get use about 8. Of course we dont go out and run at WOT for 3 hours straight, so the 20 gallon is OK for me. But if I had a choice I would put a 25 or 30. Sucks to run the fuel dry, been there done that! lol
