I don't know where to start.

Have you ever worked for an airline:D

USCG required equipment, small tool set with the necessities(wrench set, pliers, vice-grips, extra hose clamps for fuel and water lines, duct tape super glue, silicone, waterproof epoxy, utility knife, oil, drive lube, power steering fluid, assorted screws and common nuts, etc)

Had the carburetor loosen up early in the season in 09, I think it was because the gasket got dry over the winter, it would sputter when you gave it a little throttle and then stall, but it would idle, so I idled it back to the dock before I even started to look for the problem.

if you break a shear pin and don't have a spare, you can use the underwire from a big-breasted female's bra.

I used to carry a spare shear pin; now I just carry a big-breasted female.

I do the same, but out on the lake 8 miles from shore the bra is optional equipment.

The most memorable times are when I wasn't prepaired. I cracked a manifold on a 1200 horse MAN leaving Buffalo once. My bicycle was bungeed tight in the engine room and came loose once. The handlebar hit the manifold and cracked it. WTF.

the more you understand your boat the better off you'll be. spare fuses are good, but curcuit breakers are better if you cant find source of blow fuse, but don't put in anything larger than rating. I keep clamps(hose) jumper wires, plastic wire ties. and I double check all battery and fuel connections each time out. I 'm an auto tech, but boating is a whole different game, I have had more trouble with simple little things, that just don't happen to a car.I recently purchased 100ft rope and a 1 ton come a long, I hit a sand bar at 20 mph fully loaded, took me a hour to get off, i was on a river so if I had my current set up could have tied to a tree and pulled myself off. prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

With family (wife, two young kids, and gs dog) in boat and lots of rods laying on sides of boat, make sure lanyard switch is not accidently switched to off position by rod tip. Speaking from expereince here.

Prior to getting a towing membership, I ran out of fuel ten miles out on a hot sunny day. Bad fuel gage.Three hours and $420 later, I was tied up to the dock.

Back at the dock, I was fully prepared. I wanted a cold beer and fortunately I had a bottle opener on board.

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

On the serious side, Of the extra stuff I bring along, I have had to use a spare fuze on the ignition and the spare prop. Even though I have towing insurance, I'd rather not use it if I can get in myself.

X2 towing membership !!!! Had the starter go 12 miles out, just after sunset. Knew what it was when it went, from the sound (snap). Took over an hour for the tow but no out of pocket :) and yea 500 plus tow bill. Just a chop at sundown, three footers by the time the towboat got there and 4+ waves when we hit safe harbor. Towboat had 20 miles to go for home port, glad it was him not me. He make it fine but ruff ride.
I watch the sunsets from the dock for now. :D

The DeWalt cordless vacuum saved the day after The Great Doritos Explosion of 2008.  :D
It's also is very handy for inflating or re-inflating the tubes when the kids want to go tubing.

One of the first modifications to my recently purchased boat, on my 21 year old daughter's suggestion, was a wall-mount bottle opener. It has saved my teeth a few times since then.

... it blew a manifold cooling hose off the thermostat housing (the worm style clamp broke in 2)....

I heard a good tip once -- add a second clamp loose on every hose. When the first clamp gives way, you just slide up the spare and tighten the screw.

I think its the best thing to get the wife to know the boat as well as you do. I always have Joanne help me with things on the boat. I'm always showing her what things are for, and how to use them, and why. Shes always interested, and likes to just know also, guess Im lucky to have her. I remember when we had our 21.5 Bayliner, about 15yrs ago, and she was so excited to take it out on her own(her and sister) the first time, leaving me and her sisters hubby at the cabin drinking beer. She said she would be back in two hours, well after 3 1/2 hrs later, her they come. Docked the boat flawlessly, and said "well... were down to only one spear prop, we hit a rock, but honey, I ideled over to the swimming hole and changed it on my own." What could I say. The next day, we were out, and a boat full of young guys waved at us more then once, and I aked her whats up. She said, OH!, we met them yesterday at the swimming hole. I have to say, I was proud of her.
