$1.49 a gallon, but our wise gov (about ready for a recall vote here) wants to up it another .12 in taxes. Also wants to raise state income tax another 11%!

Re: How much are you paying for gas?

$1.53 regular 87 oct. Which ticks me off since we are supposed to have the lowest gas tax in the nation and the refineries are right here in the north-east part of the state so transportation cost is not that high. And I'm seeing some of yo guy paying .20 cents less than we are.

Hang all the oil exec's from the nearest yardarm!!

Re: How much are you paying for gas?

I read an editorial the other day the suggested the patriotic thing to do would be to add a $1 per gallon gas tax to what we are currently paying.

Since we are effectively supporting the Saudis and others with the mass purchase of oil, this tax would have the effect of reducing the usage of oil, and reducing our dependence on foreign oil, and the revenue flow to our enemies. It would also expedite the development of other technology that would potentially further reduce this dependency on foreign oil.

None of the alternative energy sources are going to get any traction until they are economically feasible, and they won't ever be economically feasible while gas prices are so cheap.

Europe has been doing this for years.

I am not advocting this position, necessarily, but just relaying it. But as long as we have relatively cheap gas, and we do from a world wide perspective, at least, we will have to live with the dependence we have on foreign oil, and the money we spend on that foreign oil goes to fund all manner of things that may well not be in our best interests.

BTW, gas here in Northern Michigan is $1.65 for 87 regular.

Plywood,

I won't say that we have a good or even fair energy pricing in Europe.

One of the results are, however, that we're consuming MUCH less energy per individual than the US. Household machinery, personal transportation, heating systems and general behaviour makes this possible together with innovative engineering.

Washing machines, refrigerators, tumblers etc. are much more efficient and do perform the same while they consume far less.

Eventually the US will have to change, too.

plywoody - that's like saying Americans are fat, so we should all vote to outlaw mcdonalds. Americans love their gas (or greasy food) and as long as they have the power to vote it will remain something we consume obscene amounts of. ;)

I would agree we need to use less of the stuff - building a new house and am paying a little more for geothermal, but will cut down on monthly expenses and the oil man will not love me as much!

SBN, must go right past your house on my way to my brother's in Lexington.

75.9 cents a litre X 3.79 l/gal = $2.88 Cdn / gal

At $0.75 Cdn per US $, about $2.16 US per US gal.

It was worse during the summer. Was up to 85.9 cents per litre.

Re: How much are you paying for gas?

Here today $1.45 for 87, it runs up and down low 1.30 (1.299) to 1.50. As for adding a $1 tax to gas, just stop buying there oil and put our oil men back to work. I drive by 100's of oil wells here that have been turned off so we can use forign oil! It just dosen't make any since to me, put our people back to work. So they spill a little from time to time. where did it come from? Out of the ground! GW bring our jobs HOME!

Richard

Re: How much are you paying for gas?

Interesting site:

Gas reports

Our average still looks like $1.73 for regular.

Yep...must be Oregon...Everything is higher than the rest of the country (it would seem)

And 'they' say because we have to have everything "trucked" in here...BS!
We sit on I-5, a very major highway on the West coast. What's so different about us an another state that has lower prices?

NOTHING!

H.
