Hi I need some help I think it may be time to get a another engine I'm looking for a mid 70's 40-50 hp.<br />how much do you thiink something like that will cost me?<br />are there any bad engines in those years ?

I would think $600-800 would be a fair price although other here should be able to give a better opinion.

Any well maintained OMC motor should do the job & last a long time. They are aesy to work on and parts are available.

i bought my 1972 evinrude 50hp for $355<br />i bought my 1980 evinrude 50 hp for $820<br />i bought my 1980 mercury 40hp for $300<br />i bought my 1973 mercury 50hp for $150<br />i bought my 1976 merc 115hp for , well, actually it was free plus $300.( also included boat and trailer)see prior posts<br />i bought my 1972 evinrude 85hp for $350<br />a buddy bought his 1976 johnson for $500( and included boat and trailer<br />my point is this, all of my motors were purchsed on ebay, and yes, i said all!!!!

every one<br />some were local, others were shipped, from as far away as washington state, and this is just the big motors list<br /><br />ive bought and sold TONS of small motors<br /><br />just be cautious and not stupid.<br /><br />if they have 212 feedbacks, and 211 of them are for baseball gloves and such, then where the heck did he get this motor from. heck, check my feedback, you can see what ive bought and sold

thanks for your help right now I have a 69 johnson 55hp hydroelectic shift.<br />I almost got it running I just don't know if it will shift.<br />so I wanted to know othere options if this one does'nt work out thanks.

what66, if things dn't work out, you can always set the skeg in concrete and have a super mailbox....actually, the 33-1/3 rude makes the best mailbox.. :D

well I was ready to fix my 55 johnson but it just wont shift :( <br />I'm thinking of geting a 50hp merc that a local boat shope has he whants$450 I don't konw the year yet buthe says ithas a blue stripe .<br />does this sound like a good deal? :confused:

well I was ready to fix my 55 johnson but it just wont shift
It wont shift unless the motor is running or at least turning over enough to create hydraulic oil pressure. And you have to use the correct gear lube too.

I was cranking when trying to shift and I did use type c lube.<br />I tested both silonoids and they checked out.<br />But I found a nice 35hp evinrude lark so I'm going to use that it was only $50 :cool:
