Boat sold for $7600.........somebody got robbed.
I paid 4200 for my 1988 Sea Ray Seville 18' Bow rider 4.3 175hp with 250 hrs.

I have decided I am going with Edelbrock Performer 2111 intake ,Edelbrock 1409 carb, and 1485 calibration kit.
Not going to make the changes till spring.........will post evaluation of changes then.
Any recomendations on ignition upgrades to go along with these fuel delivery changes?

i'm not smart enough to guarantee what i did on my truck will help you with your boat engine....

here's all i did to my 5.9 L turbo diesel cummins....
i added a cold air intake and removed the silencer ring in the turbo.
(OEM intake was a mess with restrictions to the air flow)
then i added a turbo back performance exhaust system with a high flow muffler....

i haven't had the truck on a dyno but i feel i easily got 30 hp from these mild mods.... (went from 300hp to 330hp) and the engine is now easy revving...


i support your mods to the exhaust but i would look into a cold air intake with some kind of ram air.... i don't know anything about edelbrock's intake, maybe it will solve your needs.....

Are you saying that your motor has Points,..??..??....

From the Parts Look-ups I can find,.......

You should already Have the T-Bolt IV ignition.................

My ignition does not have points, but any thunderbolt ignition I've seen was labelled as such somewhere on the engine..........usually on black plastic piece that covers flame arrestor
Mine is a 1988 4.3L2

consider a cheap mod,
it wil help you on the hole shot,
but may carve off a little on the top end....

Thunderbolt ignition is ALL Mercruiser used on the V6 of that vintage.
Just because there isn't a decal saying so doesn't mean it isn't there.

Oh ............Ok,
So I guess I do have a thunderbolt ignition.
So my next question is whether or not it is possible to upgrade to the newer generation Thunderbolt and do I stand to gain anything.

About the only thing you will gain is a lot less green in your wallet.
You would need new modules, new wiring harness, new knock sensors and modules. Probably cost about $750 all together, and it won't go any faster or run any better.

I would have to agree, I only paid 5k for a 96 Mariah w/ 4.3LX two years ago and had,.....................44HRS on it.

i been watching ebay auctions on 4.3, 5.0, 5.7, and 7.3 boats for just a couple of months. for the most part, the demand for 4.3 boats has dried up....
a good looking off brand 4.3 auctioned today for only 2551.00

one might be better off, if one would save their money and not invest in mods for any 4.3 because it also seems that nobody wants them.....

It books $3500-4000, take into account OMC, and $2500 sounds about right.
