I usually replace them at 5-6 years.
Haven't had one fail in my car or truck in over 20 years..
I move it from the truck, to the boat, old one from the boat goes away.

Will replace truck battery in spring, before going on 1400 mile trip.

For me it's pretty much Walmart and now Menards carries car batteries. They don't allow auto parts stores in my town so don't have a lot of choice nearby.

Maple Grove is the nortwest corner of the twin cities belt line you have a Fleet Farm a few miles away in Brooklyn Park, there is an Autozone just north of there, and just south of you is a NAPA.

your right, the 5 square miles of maple grove does not have any automotive stores, however the greater metropolis of the twin cities and surrounding communities does.

Maple Grove is all about consumerism.. I wont go there if you paid me.. The sad thing is, it used to be a cool little town, i grew up there 25 years ago.. now.. no thanx!

As stated, i replace my vehicles batteries when they die.. I want to get my moneys worth..

The boat got a new battery after 4 years. I had a Suburban that ate batteries, none even lasted 3 years but my F-150's battery was good for 8+ years. My Tacoma and Odyssey batteries last about 3 years and the BMW is 4+ but seems to be on the way out. I keep a jump box in the garage and the batteries get replaced when they fail. I tend to keep my vehicles for a long time and the battery life for each vehicle is pretty consistent.

Newbie;) We moved into one of the first developments there in 1974 - back when there was no "town" other than Osseo. And Osseo has plenty of auto parts stores (and the fleet farm - which might technically be brooklyn park/center)

A battery is a consumable item period. Ever so often one fails and if whom ever sold it to you isnt going to honer the warranty then you need to buy from a place that will. Walmart sucks so far Advance has been the best around where I am at, they keep track of the warranty information for me and never give me any hassle.

We are literally on the Corcoran border. So have farms silos and woods as the backdrop. So up the street one way is a bison farm, a horse farm lots of crop farms and the other direction is the metropolis that is Maple Grove. We still can't believe after all of these years that Corcoran is the same now as it was decades gone by with zero development. Best of both worlds except the lack of auto parts stores and self service car washes. Luckily there is a NAPA in Corcoran which is where I ended up buying my replacement boat battery...it's just expensive there. Osseo/Brooklyn Park/Fleet Farm is way across town the other way and not convenient at all.
The cool thing about our part of MG is it is still like a small town. Everyone knows everyone in our corner of town. All I really need/want here is the Menards, the Homedepot and the Lowes If i'm desperate for something. Of course the Sams Club, new Aldi and Target are handy as well. Dissing Maple Grove means you haven't been to the area we live.

We were on the other side by the park reserve, back when what most people think about as Maple Grove was just miles of corn.

Funny during the boom of the mid 2000's they started building up right off of 81 where they put in the new target and home depot. They expected it would continue on and on until of course the economy imploded. Home Depot and target are surrounded by corn fields. That park preserve area is beautiful.

My truck still has the factory battery and it's 2008, I will run it till it wont run, but I wont whine if it dies tomorrow. One thing I'm not seeing anyone speak about is the "Date Built" on the new battery. Make sure you read this date, and make sure you don't buy old stock. I've seen some auto stores peddle old marine batteries, in spring that have been sitting on the shelf for months and months. I would think you would want a battery that was built recently and not one that's been sitting there for years.

Yep my 07 oem battery died this past summer. Funny that the oem was a substandard amount of CCM for MN and for a V8. I was actually surprised by the low rating on the Delco batt. Maybe I've been fooled like high hp and tq truck engine ads fool me.

I like that pic at The Walker of Eden Prairie with a new house going up and what was left of the prairie in the background. My Father in Law has a 100 acre farm at the edge of Farmington. He wants to sell out but the Township has set a minimum lot size at 10 acres. I'd imagine Corcoran has done the same which definitely slows growth. That is a nice area out there! I looked into moving that way a while back and somewhat regret it now. Then again I was in Victoria last night and I could get used to that too.

I wouldn't buy a battery from Wally World unless I were traveling and needed one desperately, and the nearest auto parts/battery dealer were 100 miles away. Interstate, from what I've read, keeps their dealers supplied with fresh batteries. They don't let old stock sit on the shelf for very long. If they don't sell after a certain amount of time, they're picked up and taken away, replaced by fresh. As someone mentioned, pay attention to date of mfgr. And don't let a lead acid battery go longer than a month without a full charge. Better, don't let it go longer than 2-3 weeks. Boats sit sometimes for long periods of time. Esp. off-season. Buy quality, warranted batteries from reputable dealers. There are only about 3 major manufacturers of batteries any more, because of lead pollution regulation, Johnson Controls being one. Keep the battery case clean, and keep it fully charged, and it will be a happy battery. A neglected battery is a dying battery, losing 4% to 8% of its charge each month, maybe more, if dirty.
