How Old is this Mariner ?

Hi folks , first post here from Australia
I see you have a few people that can tell what year a Outboard was made so I thought I would pick ya brains

The numbers on this 40HP Mariner are 40 BE
676 BL 407160

Prop Number
48 73136 A40 L13P
Does the L stand for left ?

Hi jeff, welcome to iboats!

Your mariner was built in japan, by yamaha, in 1980. It should have electric start and a 20" leg (long).

Your propeller is genuine mercury. it is a 3 blade alloy, 10 3/8" diameter with a 13" pitch. yes, the L means left spin.

Now , can you tell me if I can still get a Prop for it, as I have been told they are no longer made .

I would imagine that a lefthand prop would be rare BUT anything can be repaired/made.

The easiest (and probably cheapest) course of action would be to get your prop rebuilt.

Well , it turns out the prop is a right handed prop , not Left at all . So maybe that "L" stands for something else . I went over yesterday and did some welding on the Trailer and my brother told me he has got the prop repaired .
